Täglich gibt es im Berufsverkehr Probleme am Kreuzungspunkt Franzenburg. Motorisierte Studierende der Technischen Hochschule Mittelhessen, Schülerinnen und Schüler auf dem Weg zur Goetheschule oder zum Berufsschul-zentrum und Beschäftigte auf den Weg zur Arbeitsstätte in der Spilburg bzw. im Leitzpark wissen ein Lied davon zu singen:Es gibt regelmäßig Rückstaus und brenzlige Situationen, wenn Fußgänger die Straße queren.
Nach dem Willen des Magistrates wird das bald ein Ende haben, erklärte Oberbürgermeister Manfred Wagner. So sollen Investitionsmittel, die der Stadt aus dem Kommunalinvestitions-programm des Bundes und des Landes zur Verfügung gestellt werden, zur Beseitigung dieses Verkehrsproblems eingesetzt werden. Oberbürgermeister Manfred Wagner wies darauf hin, dass bereits im laufenden Haushaltsjahr die Vorplanungen und Untersuchungen laufen. Es geht darum, ob ein Kreisverkehr angelegt werden kann. Oder ob der Knotenpunkt mit einer Ampelanlage gesteuert werden kann.
Die Maßnahme muss in der Folge zeitnah umgesetzt werden, weil die aus dem Landesprogramm zu finanzierenden Maßnahmen bis zum 31. Dezember 2020 abgeschlossen sein müssen. Abschließend wies Wagner darauf hin, dass diese Investition in die Verkehrsinfrastruktur die Entscheidungen des Landkreises zur Sanierung der Schulen an der Frankfurter Straße ebenso stärke, wie auch die Weiterentwicklung des Leitzparks.
